Who’s Behind Craft It Corner? A Message from a Mom Who Cares

Every parent wants more for their child—more creativity, more confidence, more opportunities to grow beyond screens and routines. Craft It Corner was created from that exact place of care and intention. Founded by a mom of 3, educator at heart, and community advocate, Craft It Corner exists to nurture curious minds through hands‑on, STEAM‑based experiences that inspire children to think critically, create boldly, and believe in what they can become. What started as a lifelong passion for teaching has grown into a space where learning feels joyful, children feel seen, and families feel supported—both in the classroom and at home.

My name is Charaun Burden, owner of Craft It Corner LLC. I am a wife to my wonderful husband Kevin, owner of Customers 1st Drain Cleaning & Plumbing Repairs, LLC. I'm a proud mom to Jaiden (19), Kelis (13), and Kameron (7).

Since childhood, I've always dreamed of being a teacher. I used to line up my dolls as students, scribble lessons on my blue walls with chalk, and erase everything with a paper towel and water before my mom came home. I pursued both bachelor's and master's degrees in childhood education and went through the process of becoming a teacher.

While obtaining these degrees, I pursued a career in banking. Although banking gave me stability and career advancement, my passion for teaching never faded. I have a year of classroom experience, including student teaching and half a year as a teacher in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School system. Although I enjoyed teaching, I wanted to make a broader impact.

That's why I launched an arts and crafts afterschool program. I wanted to incorporate STEAM-based activities that help children develop critical thinking skills. My program aims to provide fun while building essential skills for their future. I love empowering kids to believe they can achieve anything. As a parent, I believe kids deserve an afterschool experience that is hands-on and encourages creative thinking.
